Buying Guide

Intro
Intro

Choosing the right ski poles is about more than just height. The correct length helps with balance, posture and overall comfort on snow, making your skiing feel more natural and less tiring. This quick guide covers the essential points to help you choose the right poles with confidence.

How to Find the Correct Pole Length from home.

Stand upright (you can wear your ski boots for a much more accurate height ), bend your elbow to a 90-degree angle with your forearm parallel to the floor, and measure from the ground to the top of your hand. That measurement in centimetres is a reliable reference for your ski pole length.

If you already own poles, the size is usually printed on the shaft near the grip. You can also flip the pole upside down and hold it under the basket, your elbow should form roughly a 90-degree angle.

The correct pole length should feel natural and balanced.

Your shoulders should stay relaxed, pole plants should feel easy, and your arm position shouldn’t feel forced. If the pole feels like it’s lifting your arm up, it’s likely too long. If you feel like you’re reaching down, it’s probably too short.

Common Sizing Tips

If you’re between two sizes, sizing slightly shorter is usually the safer option. A shorter pole is easier to control and more comfortable for most skiers.

If you’re unsure, go with the size that feels more natural when holding the pole rather than the one that looks “right” on paper.

A Quick Note on Pole Materials

Pole material doesn’t affect sizing, but it does change how the pole feels on snow. Aluminium poles are durable and reliable, carbon poles are lighter and reduce arm fatigue, and composite poles offer a balance between weight and strength.

If you have questions or want a second opinion, our customer service team is happy to help. Give us a call on 02 6452 2303 or email customerservice@rhythm.net.au, and we can help you work out whether these poles are the right choice for your setup.
